Johnson Financial Group and Habitat for Humanity Kenosha work together to help homeowners | Local News

Johnson Financial Group will begin servicing Habitat for Humanity homeowner mortgages for free starting next month at Habitat for Humanity Kenosha to improve service quality and increase Habitat’s ability to serve more families in need of affordable housing.

Angela Elliott, executive director of Habitat Kenosha, said the partnership would be a great service to the organization, their owners and the community as a whole.

“We are absolutely delighted to offer our owners the renowned and personalized service provided by Johnson Financial Group. We are confident that their team will maintain the level of care and support that our families need while strengthening their financial stability,” said Elliott said.

For the past 10 years, Habitat Kenosha has operated as both a general contractor and mortgagor for the families served by its program, which has taken up valuable staff time. Now Habitat Kenosha can expand its operations to serve more families while retaining the mortgages served by Johnson Financial Group.

Elliot said it’s a common misconception that they give away houses for free, which is incorrect. Instead, families build their own homes, which they can then purchase at an affordable price, typically 30% or less of their household income, a much more attainable goal for struggling families.

“Historically, it’s also been a lot of work for a small nonprofit team to manage the different areas of business, construction, mortgage services and social services,” Elliot said. “This partnership helps us narrow our reach and become more efficient at what we do best: building affordable homes in our community.

Mortgage service includes collecting mortgage payments, managing escrow accounts, paying insurance premiums and taxes, and updating homeowner statements.

“Supporting our home buyers in Kenosha is important to us,” said John Williamson, vice president and senior director of mortgage operations at Johnson Financial Group. “For more than 50 years, we have proudly served the residents of Wisconsin, building strong neighborhoods is what we do…it is our privilege. At JFG, we strive to do the best for our customers, our associates and the communities we serve.
